There are numerous ways of protecting important files. Encrypting data is one of the most effective measures against unauthorized access. SafeHouse Professional Edition provides more than just an encryption function. It allows you to create and mount virtual drives and use them to store your files. The virtual drives are protected with a powerful encryption algorithm and they are impossible to mount, without the correct password.

Downloading the 12.2 MB installation file will not take long with a modern day Internet connection. The setup wizard will guide you through a series of basic settings. When the installation is complete, the software will provide you with a few instructions, to help you get started.

You may create new virtual drives or modify the existing ones, on the program's tabbed settings panel. To create a drive, you must specify a file name, a destination folder, its size, and create a password. You can enable a series of advanced configurations, if you want to select a file system, an encryption algorithm or modify other aspects of the virtual drive. The software will create two shortcuts on your desktop, for opening and closing drives. Alternatively, you may right click the program's system tray icon and select the appropriate options, to access the same functions.

Volumes can be opened or closed on separate windows. If you want to open a SafeHouse volume, you must select it from a drop menu, choose a drive letter and type your password. To close a volume, you just need to select a drive letter and click a button. The virtual drives are saved as files, in the program's native format. This makes it possible to mount a drive right away, just by running a saved file. When creating or mounting a drive, you can select an option to create a desktop shortcut for your drive.

The mounted volumes can be accessed like standard partitions, in Windows Explorer or any other file manager. Regardless of what type of data you store, you can find it untouched, if you mount your partitions at a later date. It is possible to set the program to close your volumes or suspend access if the computer idles for a certain period of time or if it goes to hibernate mode. Besides that, SafeHouse Professional Edition enables you to store your passwords on smartcards or removable memory devices. This gives you the possibility of creating long and complex passwords.
